In The Arena

Today is different.
A deviation from
business as usual.
There’s more than
syntax
nuance
plot
word count.

There is hurt.
Stories inundate.
Bombard.
Vultures
on both sides of the fence.
Every arena seat–
taken.
The fight is in full force.

Torment.
Trauma.
Drama.
Glee and disdain
color accusations;
Self-righteousness and arrogance
lace the defense.

But who listens to them?
The key
players in the spectacle?
Those who are
violated
without recourse
gawked at
suppressed
spoken for and
spoken over?

Who cares
if they are
simply
overlooked?
Buried.
Who? Who will bear witness?

***

Months ago I wrote a story that seems all too relevant today.
Today’s sordid news cycle is not new.
It’s been this way
for a very
long
time–
in every
teeming metropolis
and sleepy
country village.
It needs to
STOP.

I invite you to read: Whose Truth?
