Lone Lantern

img_1492Bold, yet gentle as
a dove, rising, shining in
strength of human love.

They’re feared, called stone cold,
yet in darkest night their warmth
surrounds, brings solace.

That hour before dawn
dark, cold, terror-filled, always
destined to dissolve.

Lone lantern, gleaming
in darkness, strangely lifted,
the hour approaches.*
