Humble Harbinger

brilliant scarlet sphere
adorning stark appendage
bared against the chill

how do you exult
in your frozen tundra, a
wonderland of white?

do you dream of warmth,
effortless times, distant hopes
buried beneath frost?

when sun disappears
behind turbulent bank of
cloud, do you shiver

shake in face of storm,
hide behind your ruby glow
fearing falling flake?

or are you braver,
stronger than mere mortal crouched
this side of window?

sparkling tiny globe,
resplendent in coat of wine,
infusing courage

bearer of crimson
joy, beacon of valiant hope
resilient essence

simple intoxication
luminous allure.

    1. Thank you Elaina! I really appreciate that. You’re right about deep roots, and about the fact that I (used to) live in FL. I am on a rather circuitous route that has taken me through Ottawa, Canada for 6 months, and now I’m on my way to CA. Wishing you happy holidays and peace. 🎄❤️
