Conveyance

img_1533she draws
a blanket
under her chin
almost as if
it embodies
a silent, creeping
darkness,
pulling it in
around
to envelope her –
cocooned
concealed
cherished

in the hush
her brain
struggles to
maintain a shred of
pride, a grain of
desire, oft buried
under the mundane,
blame growing
shame hiding
in mental crevice –
cruel
capricious
condescending

the nightly triad
she waits
longs
holds out hope for
wails plaintively
in dank fog
or torrid haze
distant invitation
to dream
hope, laugh –
consoling
comforting
caressing

there seems
no cure for
no escape from
limited recognition of
depletion siphoning
the last bit of fire
from her bones,
leaving the ash of
disappointment disguised
as resolute persistence –
clouding
cursing,
continual conundrum

that nothing
will lift
save the
lure, the enchantment
the returning
deep throated
rumble of
the snake of
rattling steel
beckoning to live –
circling
compelling
calling

her with murmurs
of rolling vista
bejeweled sky
flames of orange
crystal mountain stream
golden plain
azure breeze
stately marsh crane
vision held
with reverence
reachable only from
within cavernous belly of iron –
tonight.
